Welcome to your weekly round-up of everything I’m loving

WELCOME TO THE SCROLL by Brett Cooper

Welcome to your weekly round-up of everything I’m loving on my feeds and beyond! These are the stories that have kept me inspired, made me laugh, and more. Hopefully it gives you some insight into the ways my algorithm - and brain - seem to work.

So without further ado, let’s dive in.

STORIES FROM X

Body Positivity or Lawfare? You decide.

Guys, the viral story that I simply CANNOT look away from is the 500lb rapper, Dank Demoss, who is SUING Lyft because a driver told her that she wouldn’t fit in his car.

Just watch:

The comments are sublime, and the fact that everyone - on both sides of the aisle - realize how INSANE this is, should be a major white pill. There is a difference between feeling good in your own skin and being confident, and weaponizing body positivity to push your problems and choices on everyone else in the form of lawfare. And in my opinion, that’s what this rapper is doing. Also, I kind of need to go listen to her music, but I’m scared.

Anyway, this woman, Dank (I can’t write that seriously), is now doing a mini press tour to tell her story, and just went on The Breakfast Club podcast. And guys, she showed up, walked onto the set, and couldn’t fit IN THE CHAIR. So they literally had to bring her a COUCH.

I mean, this alone should end the lawsuit. Like ma’am, if you can’t fit in a chair, I’m not surprised in the slightest that you couldn’t fit in a car, and it's not the driver’s responsibility to accommodate you and it certainly wasn’t discrimination. And why are you even suing LYFT? What do you want? Do you want to mandate them to have Extra Large Minivans for you? That’s absurd. But also, we once talked about the woman who wanted hotels to make their HALLWAYS WIDER, so nothing shocks me at this point.

TIKTOK BOOKMARKS

As you all well understand by now, if you want me to care about sports, you need to get me emotionally invested, and DON’T WORRY, the heartstrings have been tugged. So please enjoy the TikToks that made me cry from the Super Bowl.

I love these men:

@godbehindbars

NFL eagles players talking about Jesus! #christiantiktok #christianlife #christianboy #prison #bible #foryoupage #fyp #foryou #gbb #foryou... See more

The crossover with Andy Reid being the former Eagles coach was TOO MUCH FOR ME, and this moment broke my heart in the best way:

@nfl

the love is always there ❤️ #brandongraham #andyreid #philadelphia #eagles #kansascity #chiefs #micdup #superbowl #nfl

22 year old Cooper DeJean, making his first interception, at his FIRST Super Bowl, and then WINNING said Super Bowl, ON HIS BIRTHDAY, was amazing:

@nfl

COOOOOOOPER DEJEAN 🎶 #cooperdejean #nfl #superbowl #philadelphiaeagles

I’ve never watched the Eagles, don’t know a thing about the fandom, but you bet your bottom I care about all of these people now, lol!

And seriously guys, if you want the non-sports watching woman in your life to care about the games you love, you need to make her feel like she’s watching an emotional sports flick movie, and believe me, she will start to care.

INSTAGRAM

So random, but I discovered this artist, Sophie Vanderfeld, on Instagram, and I’m obsessed.

Take a look:

She has so much whimsy and character in her art, and I’m already trying to pick a place in the house where I could hang one of her paintings!

She’s also on Etsy.

BOOK OF THE WEEK

Book

Tom Lake by Ann Patchett

After a two month reading hiatus over the holidays, I’m back, and to kickstart my 2025 literary journey, I picked up a book that’s been sitting in my TBR pile for over a year: Tom Lake by Ann Patchett.

The novel follows three daughters learning the story of their mom’s life prior to marriage and motherhood. It has a nonlinear narrative, which I always love, weaving back and forth between their mother’s adolescence and the present moment as they’re hearing these stories. I’m about halfway in and am loving it. It’s nothing particularly “thrilling,” but it’s incredibly sweet and thoughtful.

And some context on this book and why I picked it up, I love stories that surround families, their complexities, and their imperfections. I think this probably stems from me being a lonely kid wanting to know that I wasn’t alone in having a far from picture perfect family, and to this day, family dramas are one of my favorite genres.

MOVIE OF THE WEEK

Movie

A Quiet Place

I rarely get the chance to go to the movies - and to be honest, I don’t love the theaters like I used to, so I’m always discovering films on my own timeline. And I FINALLY watched A Quiet Place. I’m a wimp when it comes to anything scary, so I always avoided it, but Alex and my friend Rose finally convinced me to watch it last week, and BOY, was I missing out. I absolutely loved it.

Yes, it’s suspenseful, yes, it’s a tad unsettling, but at its core, this movie is about family, sacrifice, and love. And regardless of whether you hate or love horror or have experienced living in an apocalyptic landscape (lol!), you will be able to find meaning in the film, which is what made it so special. John Krasinski wrote, directed, AND starred in the film, and he was masterful. Plus, his character was a shining example of true masculinity.

If you haven’t watched it yet, it’s 100% worth it.

You can watch the trailer here.

I mean, A Quiet Place and Tom Lake? I think we have a theme going.

Xo,
